Our Quilting and  Applique Classes are ‘sew’ much fun, once you learn the basics your creations will be limitless! We focus mostly on machine quilting and some classes incorporate applique. Applique layers fabric upon one another to create a scene, image or collage.  We like to think of these classes as a creative, crafty and expressive style of sewing!  

Some things you may cover in these classes:

•Learn about various quilting tools, technique and safety 
•Gain experience working with various kinds of batting and fusibles 
•Learn how to apply basic top stitching techniques and stitch in the ditch
•Learn how to piece fabric together
•Learn applique stitches like satin and blanket
•Learn different applique products, styles and techniques
•Learn how to create bindings to finish your work
•Learn how to stitch an invisible finishing stitch 
•Become more familiar with terminology used with instructions
•Learn several tips that will make the whole sewing process much easier

Holiday Coasters

Wednesday, Dec. 12 & 19 ~ 6pm - 7:55pm 

This delightful course offers four separate projects to choose from, Holiday Rudolf, Christmas Tree Truck, Snow Birds and Joy. These Applique and Quilted Coasters, also known as Mug Rugs measure 7" x 10" when completed. This is the perfect project if you'd like to sample quilting and applique! You'll leave with one adorable coaster to place your morning coffee or hot coco on. And of course you can always place cookies on during Christmas eve for Santa!

Cost: $58 for course + $5 instructions, supply & thread fee. Bring your own machine or rent one from the studio for $5. A list of materials will be sent a week before class starts.

Spread the Love Pillows

Tuesday, Feb. 19, 26, March 5 & 12 ~ 6pm - 7:55pm

Join us for this delightful Valentine's Day inspired quilting course. Learn the basics of quilting, including paper piecing while creating a sweet 12 x 12 Heart Pillow. In addition to the quilted heart pillow students will also create a 4 x 4 coordinating scented sachet pillow. Sachet pillows can be scented with your choice of lavender, lemon or orange essential oils.

Cost: $125 for course + $10 instructions & supply fee. Bring your own machine or rent one from the studio for $5. A small list of materials will be sent a week before class starts.

A completed quilted pillow and sachet pillow

Christmas Tree Skirts

This festive Christmas Tree Skirt will be a wonderful addition to your holiday decor and a talking piece. Select fabrics of your choice to customize for your living space. Put out for holidays to come and keep as a family heirloom. Using fabrics and a color palette of your choice this project will finish at about 47 X 47.

Cost: $95 for course + $10 instructions, supply & thread fee. Bring your own machine or rent one from the studio for $10. A list of materials will be sent a week before class starts.

The Mythical Unicorn

The powerful and peaceful unicorn has been a constant in folklore dating as far back as the fourth century. Intertwined in stories of travel, children’s books and whimsy the unicorns' mythical property is of purity and good, said to heal the sick and cure water.

Bring a touch of folklore and whimsy into your home! Join us for this delightful Quilting Course to create your very own unicorn quilt block and enjoy the challenge of a new sewing project. Youthful and imaginative this project is a wonderful gift for any new mom, for yourself or anyone who just loves unicorns! 

Using fabric of your choice you will be cutting out and assembling 54 different pieces to create your unique unicorn. Finished size will be approximately 25" x 25" - perfect for a wall hanging or large throw pillow. In addition to the quilt block the pattern, includes directions for two different quilt sizes.

Instructor: Amanda Sylvia Crandall started sewing several years ago and it was when she began taking classes at The Creative Sewing Studio in 2013 that she realized this was her true passion! Since then she has sewn countless pillows, skirts, and baby shower gifts.  Amanda is a mom to two young boys and her super powers include sewing with both of them sitting on her lap. She enjoys box pleats, jigsaw puzzles, cross-stitch, and solo trips to Joann Fabrics where she touches all the reversible sequins.

Holiday Trees

This delightful project is for the intermediate level sewer who wants to challenge themselves with swirls and circles. The end result, a gorgeous holiday inspired wall hanging.

Sashiko Embroidery

Sashiko stitching is a traditional embroidery style from Japan. It was originally used as a decorative reinforcement stitch, but today is more for decorative purposes. Inspired by a recent trip to Hawaii and by Sylvia Pippen's design, Honu Sea Turtle found there we've brought a little piece of Hawaii into the studio. 

Join us for this unique course where we will:

•Discuss the history of Sashiko
•Learn different applique products, styles and techniques
•Gain experience working with various kinds of fusibles
•Learn how to apply basic top stitching techniques
•Learn hand embroidery techniques

Dresden Flower Pillows

These pillows are sure to delight! Create for any season or any room in your home. This quilted pattern was one of the most popular designs during the 20's and 30's. Named after the ornately decorated tableware of Dresden,Germany this pattern is still widely poplar today. Use up your scraps or incorporate new fabric while learning how to create this lovely bench pillow.
