These dynamic and creative classes offer students the opportunity to repurpose items that are looking for a new life. With so much waste, why not skip buying new fabric or new clothing, bags or clutches and give your tired items a new life! Create blankets from clothing, clutches from an old band t-shirts, skirts from towels and more!


Memory Quilts, Creative Sewing Studio

T-Shirt/Memory Quilts

Sat., May 9, 16, 30 & June 6 ~ 10:00am - 12:30pm

T-Shirt Quilts also known as Memory Quilts are a wonderful keepsake, heirloom and a great way to repurpose your clothing!

• You can create these quilts out of old concert t-shirts, baby/children's clothing, sport t-shirts, clothing from a passed loved one and so much more!

Students will utilize personal garments and fabric to create a block quilt that will be lap, crib, twin or full sized. Instruction will be provided in how to cut and re-purpose clothing to create blocks for the quilt. We will also discuss the best needles, stabilizers, batting and padding to use and cover some basic quilting stitches like stitch-in-the-ditch and top-stitching. * Please see photo above to gain a better understanding of the design format we will be following.

Class Cost: $255. A supply list will be sent about two weeks before your course. Leave With: A quilt and the skills to make more Instructor: Mikala Cash Prerequisite: Sewing 101 or prior Quilting Course.  *There will be about 1 - 3 hours of out of class time between classes.


Be Your Own Tailor

Tues., June 9, 16, 23 & 30 ~ 5:30pm - 7:45pm

These tailoring classes are perfect for those interested in learning how to do basic clothing repairs and clothing alterations on ready-made garments. Students will learn practical and useful skills to fix and alter clothing which could save money, enable a better fit and allow you to re-purpose clothing items.

This is a semi-custom course where you can submit up to three things you are most interested in learning. At checkout please add these requests in the Add a note to your order section under the pink Check Out box. These items can be from the list below or you can suggest other topics that interest you. We will cover at least two requests from each person and a course outline will be sent a week before the start date. Some clothing items will be supplied for demo purposes but students are expected to bring in items that are relevant to their requests to work on.

Please note we do not cover pattern alterations, clothing creation, nor zipper related issues in this course. Some requests may not be accommodated in this course due to the amount of time, skill level etc. needed.

Some Examples Of Tailoring Class Topics:
  • Learn about sewing machine tension, different kinds of needles and threads
  • Basic clothing repairs and clothing alterations
  • Hemming - pants, skirts, shirts, etc.
  • Sew on a button
  • Weight loss wardrobe adjustment
  • Weight gain wardrobe adjustment
  • Take in or let out clothing
  • Repair basic tears in clothing
  • Shorten tank top straps, Shorten sleeves
  • Work with adding or fixing elastic in clothing
Class Cost: $225 Prerequisite: Due to limited space and with being a more in-depth course our Be Your Own Tailor Courses are reserved for students who have completed Sewing 100 & Sewing 101 with the studio. Instructor: Mikala Cash

Upcycled Clothing  Totes

I loved this dress because of the print, but the fit was horrible. After holding onto it "just in case" I decided I was just never going to where it and made it into this cute tote. Do you have a garment you like but don't wear due to poor fit, staining, rips, etc.? Perhaps it's time to turn it into a tote. During this course Mikal help you turn a wearable into this cute tote in one of two sizes. This will have two internal pockets, boxed corners and a magnetic snap closure.

Leather & Vintage Ribbon Bracelets

Spend the afternoon creating unique bracelets with leather remnants and vintage ribbon hand selected in the fabric district of New York. Add embellishments like button contrasting thread, lace and buttons. You'll be able to make a your bracelet in a width of your choosing and we'll use hardware to to create a snap closure that fits your wrist.
