FAQ

Hi!

We're sew excited you're interested in joining one of our Studio offerings! We have had the privilege of teaching over 8,000 students since opening in 2007. Many of these students have come as strangers and left as friends with some being with us from nearly the beginning.

Our studio was born from the love of sewing, art and community and the desire to share this with others. This love and passion is the thread of our business and you’ll experience that in every class you take and instructor you have.  We think you'll find our studio to be inspirational and a safe place for creativity, expression and for you to be you!

What Is The Best Way To Reach The Studio?

The best way to reach us is by email at creativesewingstudio@gmail.com. We are a small business and receive numerous correspondences each week and find email works best.

What Ages Are Your Classes? / Can I Bring A Guest?

We offer adult classes for ages 18 and older.  Due to limited space, seats are for paying students and unfortunately, we cannot accommodate guests sitting in "to watch". But you are more than welcome to register with friends or meet new ones at the studio. You'll find our crew is a friendly bunch!

What do you expect from your students?

Good vibes, kindness, enthusiasm for learning, positivity and a can-do attitude. We like to keep the studio a high-vibe positive space for you, your classmates and the instructors to enjoy. Often our students call the studio their "Happy Place" and it's important to our community to foster this.

What are your hours?

Because we are not a retail location but a place of learning we do not keep set hours. We all have different schedules and a good amount of our non-teaching work is remote.

Can you make an age exception?

Unfortunately, we do have to adhere to the 18 and over age requirement. We're often asked if we can make an expectation for someone's 16, 12, 9, etc. year old. I'm sorry we can't. If we make an exception for your child, we will need to make an exception for others and we just don't have the resources to be an "all ages" location. Our adult courses, workshops and events keep us really busy.

Do you do custom work and/or fix machines?

We do not offer either currently.

How Many People Are In Your Classes?

We max at 8 students for our Sewing Lessons, 14 for our Art and Holistic Workshops. Our boutique style learning environment enables each student group and individual attention without overbooking and having time for chit chat and getting to know fellow students.

What's the Overall Vibe Of Your Classes?

~ We have a lot of fun in our classes – we laugh, joke, chitchat and our goal is to have us leaving feeling better than when we came in. We pack in a lot of learning, instruction, guidance, and tips and tricks that only schooling and decades of hand-on learning can provide.

~ Our instructors are down-to-earth very knowledgeable and dedicated. We truly care about our students, people and community. We are invested in everyone who walks in the door to provide them with the skills on their creative journey and to get to know them as a person. So many students have called us their “sewing family” and that the studio is “their happy place”. We feel the same way!

~ No one is above anyone else and we all work as a team, grow as a team and everyone treats one another with respect and kindness.

~ There are many side paths with the learning process. All our classes have pre-selected projects that we utilize to teach valuable information and skills. In a typical class you can expect to cover some technical techniques, tips, tricks, many demos and creative approaches.

How Do I Register?

Online:  We accept all major credit cards online.

~ In Studio: We accept cash or check for purchases and registrations made in the studio.

~ Material fee is brought to the first class and paid to the instructor.

~ Payment in full is due at the time of registration and will reserve your space in the course. Please register early to ensure a seat as classes fill quickly

What Happens After I Register?

~ First thing, give yourself a high-five for setting some time aside for you! :)

~ You will receive an email about 1-2 weeks before the start of your course/workshop that will have pertinent info about your classes. Please review this so you are prepared for your class.

~ Some students will receive an email that requires a response back and these emails will let you know which needs a response.

~ If you do not see this email please check your promotions folder, spam folder and social folder before emailing us. If you find us in one of these 3 folders, please add us to your contacts so we are seen in your inbox.

I Really Want To Take Classes, But I'm Not Sure What I Should/Can Take?

~ Each of our classes has a course description followed by the prerequisites needed. Reviewing this will provide more information in helping you select a class suitable for your skill level.

~ Most of our sewing classes have prerequisites to ensure you’re in a class suitable to your skill level so that you enjoy your experience and don’t feel as though you are failing behind or in over your head. We want this to be fun ~ where you are learning but not stressed. :)

~ If you are new to sewing or it's been several years since you've sewn on a machine we would recommend our Sewing 100 Course.

~ After reviewing the course description, if you're still not sure what to register for please email us at creativesewingstudio@gmail.com and we will help to place you in the right course.

Do Your Classes Have Prerequisites?

~ Most of our classes, except for our Sewing 100 Sewing Course and Art Workshops, have prerequisites. This ensures you are in the right class for you where you will be challenged but not overwhelmed. It also helps the classes run more smoothly when the students are around similar skill level, so no one is falling behind. This enables students to gain a solid foundation in skill appropriate courses.

~ It's the student's responsibility to fully read the class description for the course they are interested in and know what they are signing up for.

Do I Need a Sewing Machine For Sewing Classes?

~ You do not need a sewing machine for our Sewing 100 or Sewing 101 Courses. Students are welcome to rent studio machines for a one-time fee of $10 per course during our Sewing 100 and Sewing 101 Courses. These are for studio use only.

~ With "at homework" being a part of many of our intermediate and higher-level courses students joining us for any course beyond the two mentioned above will want to have their own machines that they are comfortable threading, making bobbins and sewing on.

What Happens If I Can't Attend All The Classes In A Season?

When signing up for a course you’ll want to be able to attend all the classes in that session. You wouldn’t want to sign up for an offering where you can’t attend all the classes as most build on the one prior.  Please make all efforts to attend each class in your session.  This allows for the course to run more smoothly for everyone.

Do You Offer Make-Up Classes?

We understand “life happens” but unfortunately, we’re rarely able to accommodate make-ups. We don’t have the resources to offer private lessons for make-ups. And with most of our classes not having empty seats and each class having a syllabus, set of projects, tips, tricks and learning to accomplish during the class it makes it challenging for someone to be working on a make-up from a different class with potentially different projects and set of skills.*However, in rare cases when the stars align we can offer a make-up so it’s always good to give us as much notice as possible about an absence.

Sometimes I Like to Get High or Buzzed Before I Do Things, Can I Do That Before Your Classes?

Ummmmmmm…..I hope you only clicked on this one because it was comical and not because you really needed an answer to this. :) No, it’s not wise to be under the influence of anything while at the studio. We’re playing with sharp objects, hot things, learning a lot and we're a small studio where your vibe can effect others. Thanks for leaving all your libations, wacky tobacky, etc. for outside of the studio.

What happens if I leave something behind?

If projects/items are left at the studio, shoot us an email and we’ll set it aside for you to come by and pick up. With so many students we don’t always know who is leaving what so please reach out. After a month anything left behind will be donated or repurposed. The studio is not responsible for items left behind.
