I highly recommend The Creative Sewing Studio at Mikala Cash Designs! I owned a sewing machine for years before taking the Sewing 101 class and had taken a couple sewing classes. While I’d completed a few projects, I really had no idea how to use my machine and had given up on sewing…until I purchased a Living Social deal for the studio, which was worth every penny. After just one of Mikala’s classes, I learned how to thread the machine, which to me was always the most daunting task!  The small class size, comfortable learning environment, and the patient and personal attention from Mikala made all the difference. And the studio itself offers tons of creative inspiration in designs that Mikala herself has made that you can purchase for yourself or as a special gift. After successfully completing two class projects – a pillow and tote bag – I can officially say that I am excited about sewing and I look forward to taking other classes with Mikala as well as tackling a few projects on my own at home. If you or someone you know has ever had an interest in sewing, check out The Creative Sewing Studio at Mikala Cash Designs today!

I took the sewing class on a whim and was very nervous about it since I had no real experience with sewing. By the end of the second class I had finished a pillow and I couldn’t believe I made it because it looked so professional. Mikala is a great teacher, with so much patience and really takes the time to walk you through everything and make sure you know what you’re doing. I enjoyed Sewing 101 so much that I took Sewing 102 right after. The projects are more complex with patterns and instructions that sometimes don’t seem to make sense, but Mikala helped me work though it and after 5 weeks I walked away with a great purse. I learned so much in those classes, I even started making small projects on my own. I am so glad I signed up for that first class!

Mikala’s expertise and guidance have helped me finally learn how to sew and her endless patience and variety of projects (as well as the desire to learn more) have kept me returning! The class atmosphere is relaxed and we all learn from each others successes and mistakes. It’s a great feeling to start a something knowing nothing and end with a project or two that you never thought you could do and that you have the confidence to create again outside the classroom. Looking forward to starting my next class in a few weeks!

Mikala is an awesome sewing teacher, who’s passion and love for sewing has rubbed off on me! I entered Mikala’s Sewing 101 class this summer with absolutely no knowledge about sewing or with any sewing skills, and left her 5 week class with a finished tote bag that we had sewn in 3 classes time. Mikala is very patient and friendly, and her studio is very organized and well equipped for our sewing projects. Mikala also gives everyone the one-on-one attention they need during projects, and does a great job of explaining each step of our projects as we complete them. I would highly recommend Mikala’s sewing classes to anyone, whether just starting out or at an advanced sewing level. Mikala offers classes for children up to adults on a wide variety of sewing subjects that there’s always something new to learn!

I started as a total beginner – having never touched a sewing machine- with Mikala’s sewing 101 class. By the end, I had created a pillow cover and tote bag, and I had caught the sewing bug! Now I have just completed her 102 class and quilting class. I have learned so much from my time with Mikala, and I am looking forward to an upcoming clothing construction and sewing 103 class. Mikala is incredibly encouraging, clear, organized, and so easy to understand. She has a ton of patience, and she knows her students and designs classes that appeal to a wide range of interests and levels. Her classes are small in size allowing for plenty of one on one attention. I have tried sewing classes at other places and believe Mikala offers the perfect environment for a beginning sewer to learn and grow. So glad I found her.

I had an amazing afternoon at the Creative Letter Writing Workshop with Bill Clark at Mikala Cash Designs. Two words come to mind instantly: creativity and nostalgia. Bill guided the group through 3 hours of fun as we put pen to paper and explored new and creative ways to write. In this fast-paced, high-tech age, it made me appreciate the lost art of letter writing and how truly special it is to see a written word. I look forward to my next class Bill. He’s an encouraging, easy-going, and talented artist and teacher.

I finished Mikala’s intermediate (103) class last week. There were five projects that students could choose from, so the class offered some flexibility, while also providing enough structure that I didn’t feel overwhelmed. I leaned some new skills (properly using a pattern, bias tape, and fusible interfacing) and worked on some skills that needed help (sewing a straight line!). The small class size allowed her to spend time answering each student’s questions and offering suggestions for the best way to approach a task. Additionally, when a student worked on a technique that wasn’t included in everyone’s project (e.g. turning a strap, making a ruffle), she made sure everyone came together to see how it was done. That way, everyone was exposed to techniques beyond those necessary for their own projects. Absolutely recommend taking classes here!
